What Is MobileMed? - [Site Under Construction]
Written by Staff
Thursday, 19 June 2008
MobileMed currently serves more than 5,000 of our community’s most vulnerable and isolated residents. Our patients are primarily the uninsured, homeless, unemployed, political refugees, victims of torture, and immigrants from throughout the world. They come from more than 50 countries and speak more than 50 languages and dialects. Many suffer from one or more chronic conditions including but not limited to: diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular problems, obesity, high cholesterol, hepatitis, asthma, assorted allergies, orthopedic disabilities, and cancer. All struggle with the reality of a community whose need for quality health care exceeds its capacity to deliver.
Non-Profit Medical Group Brings Health Care to Poor, Uninsured
Written by Jeffery Young, Voice Of America

To most Americans, the governments in
their towns and regional areas called counties are the governments they
interact with the most. And alongside these local governments are
groups of citizens who work on their own to make life better. In this
segment of a multi-part series, VOA's Jeffrey Young focuses on a
private-sector initiative in Montgomery County, Maryland meant to
ensure health care for all.
The film playing on this page was created by the Voice Of America and is a wonderful illustration of the work of MobileMed described in Mr. Young's article. We thank the VOA for graciously allowing us to play it here. You can also download a higher quality version to view on your desktop by clicking this link. MobileMed
has 19 health clinics located throughout Montgomery County
operating at regularly scheduled times in churches, government
buildings, public housing facilities, and on our three fully-equipped
mobile medical vans (“Moby”, “Hummy”,
and “Arnie”). Days and times of clinic operations
vary to offer the most options to our patients. Some clinics
require appointments that can be made
up to three months in advance, while others offer a walk-in
service—MobileMed being the only health care provider
in the County offering such an option. All clinics operate
on a sliding fee scale based on the patient’s family
income, size, and ability to pay.
MobileMed
has never turned away a patient due to his or her inability
to pay.
On
Thursday, March 29, the Original
Pancake House will host its third annual "MobileMed
Day" by donating 15% of gross sales to MobileMed.
Be sure to stop by 770 Wisconsin Ave. in Bethesda or
12224 Rockville Pike in Rockville between 7:00 am and
3:00 pm. Come hungry and show you care!
